During the hot, crazy, and wild weekend of Shaky Knees Music Festival in Atlanta, Georgia, SCAD Radio Content Director El Smith got a chance to sit down in the grass with all four members of Canadian band Peach Pit: Peter, Neil, Chris, and Mikey. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Between discussions of how to pronounce Bon Iver and a lengthy process of trying to figure out some Canadian geography (that was only ended by googling the answers), we here at SCAD Radio got a wonderful glimpse into the life and friendship of Peach Pit, as well as my very own flower crown hand-made by Mikey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Icebreaker! What\u2019s your favorite kind of bear?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Peter<\/em>: Kind of\nbear\u2026 Chris.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Neil<\/em>: Chris is a\nbear. He\u2019s pretty hairy. He\u2019s like a little bear. <\/p>\n\n\n\n What inspired your\nlatest album, Being So Normal<\/em>?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Neil<\/em>: Being really\ncovered in pimples in high school and no girls liked me, probably.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Chris<\/em>: Yeah,\nthat\u2019s kind of the general idea, for sure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Neil<\/em>: He\u2019s so sad,\nwhat\u2019s wrong with him?<\/p>\n\n\n\n Chris<\/em>: Acne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Neil<\/em>: His life was\ngreat, he just had some pimples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Which one of you\nwould you say is the most<\/em> normal?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Neil<\/em>: Probably me?<\/p>\n\n\n\n Chris<\/em>: Probably\nNeil, yeah. I think so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Neil<\/em>: I golf\u2026 I\nlike to watch Netflix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Well, the follow-up\nquestion was who\u2019s the least normal.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Chris<\/em>: Mikey\u2026?<\/p>\n\n\n\n Peter<\/em>: Mikey?\nMikey\u2019s just funny.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Neil<\/em>: Yeah, that\u2019s\ntrue. Probably Pete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Peter<\/em>: I\u2019m not the\nmost not normal?<\/p>\n\n\n\n Neil<\/em>: I would say.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Peter<\/em>: Yeah,\nyou\u2019re right, I\u2019m pretty progressive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Neil<\/em>: Actually,\nmaybe Chris. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Peter<\/em>: One time he\nput dish soap in the dishwasher thinking it did the same thing as detergent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Do you have a\nfavorite song from your album?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Neil<\/em>: My favorite\nis \u201cTommy\u2019s Party\u201d. It\u2019s the last one on the album. I wanted it to be the first\nsong because I thought it was the best.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Peter<\/em>: I like \u201cPrivate Presley\u201d. It\u2019s fun to play, and also it took us so long to write and finish it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Chris<\/em>: I really\nlike the song \u201cTechno Show\u201d. It\u2019s about Neil going to a techno show and not\nwanting to be there. It\u2019s kinda like an anti-techno music song.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Neil<\/em>: Anti-house\nmusic song.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Peter<\/em>: Anti-dance\nmusic song.<\/p>\n\n\n\n How do you like being\non tour?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Pete<\/em>: It\u2019s the\nbest time ever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Chris<\/em>: It kinda feels like we\u2019re either at home and we\u2019re chilling and writing and it\u2019s very laid back, or we\u2019re on tour and we\u2019re at a hundred. So when you\u2019re at 0, you\u2019re like \u201cAh, man, I miss a hundred and being busy\u201d and when you\u2019re at a hundred you\u2019re like \u201cI miss chillin\u2019 out\u201d, so the answer to \u201chow do we like being on tour\u201d is whether we\u2019re on tour or not because when we\u2019re on tour we want a break and when we\u2019re off tour we just can\u2019t wait to get back on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Neil<\/em>: It\u2019s fun.\nIt\u2019s like you literally are throwing a party every single night, and everyone\nthere is stoked, and you make them stoked. It\u2019s pretty fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Mikey<\/em>: I love the\nparty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Neil<\/em>: And Mikey\nloves the party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n You guys are from\nCanada, so how do you like being in America?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Neil<\/em>: Oh, I love America.\nThe States are the best. There\u2019s just so much good food and it\u2019s so cheap to\nbuy stuff here\u2014it\u2019s way more expensive at home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Peter<\/em>: I mean,\nkinda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Neil<\/em>: People are\nso nice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Peter<\/em>: Not really\nthese days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Neil<\/em>: People from\nCanada are polite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Peter<\/em>: Different\nnice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Chris<\/em>: Yeah, there\nis a big difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Neil<\/em>: People in\nthe states are really friendly\u2014not in every state, but definitely in The South.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n Chris<\/em>: People in\nUtah are so nice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Peter<\/em>: A guy from\nMassachusetts gave Chris a guitar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n If I were to go to\nCanada, what should I do?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Neil<\/em>: Well, if you\ncame to Vancouver\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n Chris<\/em>: The first\nthing you should do is buy a joint, it\u2019s legal there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Neil<\/em>: When we\u2019re\nback home, Vancouver is really known for the outdoors so we really like playing\nDisc Golf. It\u2019s like golf except instead of hitting a ball into a hole, you\u2019re\nthrowing a frisbee into a basket. Play some disc golf, have a couple beers, go\ndown to the beach and have a bonfire at the beach. <\/p>\n\n\n\n What\u2019s coming up next\nfor you guys?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Chris<\/em>: We\u2019re going\nto go in and record next month\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n Neil<\/em>: This month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Chris<\/em>: Yeah, and\nwe got a pretty chill summer ahead of us. We\u2019re playing some festivals, but\nmostly just working on this record and trying to write more in the midst of all\nof it. Just really excited to put some new music out and get some new\nrecordings done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n What inspires your\nmusic?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Neil<\/em>: Who\u2019re we\nlistening to right now?<\/p>\n\n\n\n Chris<\/em>: I really\nlike this guy, Sam Evian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Neil<\/em>: I\u2019m just on\na major classic music train right now. Listening to a lot of Neil Young. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Pete<\/em>: I am a big\nfan of Bon Iver. I feel like his music is inspiring to me. I love how creative\nand weird and original his music is. I think he\u2019s one of the most creative\nartists of our generation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Let\u2019s talk about some\nfavorite artists\u2014of all time.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Neil<\/em>: ACDC.\nBeatles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Chris<\/em>: We just\nwatched a George Harrison Documentary. The Beatles are just too classic to\nreally appreciate until you really dive into them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Neil<\/em>: Frank Ocean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Chris<\/em>: A lot of\nvery local stuff. A band called Schwey.
