But her third album, <em>I DISAGREE<\/em>, is a raging temper tantrum from the start, clashing rambunctious guitar work and her childlike speech. It\u2019s like taking a box of apple juice and spiking it with Bacardi. \u201cConcrete\u201d zig-zags back and forth between metal and pop, something Poppy herself described as \u201cpost-genre.\u201d  The track\u2019s also got the first of <em>many<\/em> teeth references- it wouldn\u2019t be Poppy if there weren\u2019t pastel punk vampires. She even references her disdain for the sun on \u201cSick of the Sun,\u201d a melancholy cut evidently centered around depression- but you know she had the classic heliophobic vampire trope in mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All of these songs are just <em>begging<\/em> to be anime openings. The balloony, feminine voice paired with the industrial soundtrack is the kind of music playing in a Claire\u2019s and Hot Topic crossover store. There\u2019s plenty of juicy production to sink your teeth into. The title track is a nu-metal fantasy with a killer bassline. You\u2019ll need to dig deep to find another song as ferocious as \u201cBLOODMONEY.\u201d Even \u201cSit \/ Stay\u201d has techno instrumentals that\u2019d feel out of place on a metal-pop concoction if they weren\u2019t so infectious.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The noise is the LP\u2019s blood, however, because the lyrics don\u2019t try hard enough to reflect the idiosyncrasies of Moriah Pereira\u2019s alter ego. Poppy is an enigmatic character who\u2019s scored 23 million views by <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=fpCXxqiTjqE\" target=\"_blank\">saying \u201cI\u2019m Poppy\u201d for 10 minutes straight<\/a>, launched a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=rWHrWuDnReM\" target=\"_blank\">YouTube Red series<\/a> on her robotic persona, and even <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/poppy.church\/\" target=\"_blank\">started a religion<\/a>. It\u2019s a shame none of her oddities find a home in the writing. The only signs of her storytelling footprints appear on \u201cAnything Like Me,\u201d a farewell to longtime collaborator (and former lover) Titanic Sinclair and their lawsuit with fellow musician Mars Argo.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Albums bloom when an artist\u2019s brand and quirks are reflected in it, so when the figure of someone like Poppy isn\u2019t played up to its potential, it\u2019s a missed opportunity that\u2019s been common in the 25-year-old\u2019s music. \u201cBLOODMONEY\u201d invigorates by presenting views on religious hypocrisy, but neither it nor any of the other songs are as enticingly bizarre as <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ayfBf2J-Qlc\" target=\"_blank\">her interview with this plant<\/a>. Regardless, music that bangs is still great music, and almost every song on here earns its place through a terrific hook or spicy riff. Not everything needs to have worldview-altering poetry.
