Here’s our music director Hailey on her picks new picks for this week’s regular rotation:

Y’all know “Gimme Love” by Joji from Tik Tok. He has a new album called “Nectar.” Joji describes his music as having “a sense of urgency but calm” and I 100% agree. This week I’m featuring “Daylight” (feat. Diplo), “Sanctuary”, “Your Man” and “Run” from his newest album.

“Daylight” has a call and repeat vibe that’s fun to sing along to–the type of song that can make you feel like the main character in a music video just by lip-syncing. The song is about trying to get over a breakup. He is done crying over it. He’s been blaming himself for the end of the relationship, but now Joji’s trying to let go.

“Sanctuary” is a chill lowkey beat about new love. Singing to the person he likes, Joji states they don’t have to wait on him. If they’ve been waiting to love, he’ll love them now. He’ll be there for them. Joji thinks of this person as his sanctuary, he can rely on them and hopes they can feel that way too.

“Your Man” is a simple question to a new lover. In this song, Joji speaks to someone he likes and wants to know if they would be interested in a relationship. The song gives off a chill vibe, something nice to listen to in the background. With only a few lyrics it depends on its catchy beat to carry it through.

“Run” is about getting away from a failed relationship and the fast life that goes with fame. Wearily, he sings about the love that is no longer there. Joji is dealing with the rush of stardom and it’s overpowering him. He wants to escape. He wants to run.

Another album I’m proud to highlight this week has a bit of a louder, edgier feel to it. Kelsy Karter’s newest EP is called “Love Me or Hate Me,” which is the first title of the first track I’m featuring from it. In addition, listed is “Devil On My Shoulder”, “Liquor Store On Mars”, and “Catch Me If You Can”.

“Love Me or Hate Me” feels like a rock and roll song but all the lyrics are different traits she has that could be viewed as flaws. In summary, you can be the one that chooses to love or hate her based on these traits but she’s not going to change for anyone. She would be pretending if she acted any other way.

“Devil On My Shoulder” states the message of the song pretty clear, it’s about listening to the devil on her shoulder. Another rock-esque song with strong drum beats and electric guitar. Intellectually, she knows what she’s doing isn’t good for her but her instinct tells her otherwise. Her lover’s actions are addictive, pulling her back in.

“Liquor Store On Mars” is about getting over a past relationship. She feels she has to get out of this planet just to forget about him. Even with escaping this planet, she still feels the need to get drunk to drown her feelings. She expresses a huge amount of pain from this relationship ending. It’s a great song to sing along to as your crying about your own ex. Hopefully, that’s not any of you but if it is, now you have something new to add to your break up playlist. Even if you aren’t in the same emotional state it’s still a catchy bop to listen to, with a unique chorus about a liquor store on mars.

“Catch Me If You Can” is a fast-paced rock song. Representing the message of the song through the pace of the beat. Now that she left the relationship, her ex wants her back but he missed his chance. She has moved beyond him now and has no desire to turn back for him.
